Amir Schricker - Photos Thailand

Thailand

June 2004 -- After years of waiting, I finally made it out to Thailand for the best snorkeling and tanning as well as lots of EuroCup. We visited Bangkok, Chiang Mai (north), the islands (south), as well as stopping by Cambodia for a few days.

Getting measured for a custom-made suit at one of Thailand's many tailors. Pimp daddy Schricker will soon be wearing a cashmere suit...

Flying off almost immediately to Siem Reap, Cambodia to visit Angkor Wat. Look behind us: it's a fish, it's a plane, it's...ok, it's a plane.

Welcome to Angkor Wat, a complex of dozens of "wats" (temples) created by Hindus during their control of the region.

A few of the (MANY) girls who volunteered to watch our bikes at Angkor Wat. How nice of them, right? Riiight. By the end of the day they were threatening to steal our bikes if we didn't buy postcards from them.

One of the many intricate and interesting bas-reliefs lining the huge walls of Angkor Wat. They all describe Hindu epics. These were actually very impressive.

Trying to climb to the highest level of the temple. Those stairs are much steeper than they look.

Yet another view of the insides of Angkor Wat. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider was actually filmed in here, in case you cared. (Probably explains why Angelina Jolie adopted a Cambodian kid.)

Even though every animal in this country (cows, dogs, etc.) were pathetically skinny, these monkeys would never have to worry about starvation. Those fatsos received food from all the tourists...

...including me. I wasn't going to pass up on an opportunity to feed a monkey. They're just like humans. Little hairy humans, of course.

I saw a cute little kid, so I decided to take a picture with the little cute kid. Little did I know...

...that this kid -- who was barely able to walk on two feet -- demanded "one dollar, one dollar" after I snapped a photo! Watch as I hand over my money to him. Punk.

The Royal palace, home of His Majesty King Bhumipol Adulyadej of Thailand. (This guy's face, by the way, was pasted in EVERY room in the country. God forbid we forget what he looks like for even one minute.)
